Truett and Technology
August 21, 2017
Five years ago I had the great honor of meeting Truett Cathy, late founder of Chick-fil-A. He’s become synonymous with wealth and generosity (an unusual combination), and perhaps more notably, Christianity. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve driven into a Chick-fil-A parking lot on Sunday only to find… yep, you know the feeling. Dang you, Sunday! But in the very few short moments I had with Mr. Cathy, he said something that stuck with me: “Money can be a powerful tool, or it can be your worst enemy.” (He got right to the point, haha)
Why? Why did he feel it necessary to bring up that bit of wisdom, and not something else? It was because he knew what a vice money could be, but also knew its great power for good. He’d experienced it.
Technology is the same. It has great potential for good; for growing in your walk with Jesus and encouraging others to do the same. But as with everything, it can be tainted. It can be ruined. It can be your worst enemy.
Or better yet, it can be the most powerful tool you’ve ever used.
