Women, Thou Art Loosed!
Bishop T.D. Jakes’ 2004 movie (his first), WOMAN, THOU ART LOOSED!, began, to go to the very beginning, in pastoral counseling with women in West Virginia. What the pastor learned in those sessions led to Sunday School classes that rapidly filled, leading to seminars, a wildly bestselling book of the same name, and ever-larger conferences. Eventually a “Woman, Thou Art Loosed” conference in the Georgia Dome drew its largest crowd, ever. (Check the plaque on the side of The Dome.) In every venue, with characteristic empathy and insight, Bishop Jakes aired deep wounds and applied hope. Lovell-Fairchild was privileged to travel to major US cities and work with top US media, promoting the movie that charged audiences because it spared neither hurt nor hope—and opened at ninth in the nation.
